Illustration News

The Swedish Illustrator Karin Rönmark recently graduated from Konstfack College of Arts Crafts and Design (2009), with a MA in Graphic Design & Illustration. Karin has clients like Weekday, Photowall and Spoon, and the red thread throughout all her work is storytelling.

Her work is genuine, I especially like her typography. The colours she uses is my cup of tea too, just compare with the blue colour I have in my blog.

I read about her the first time in CAP&Design a little while ago, appointed as one of their favourite creators. Unfortunately, for you non-Swedes, the magazine is only in Swedish.

From tomorrow Thursday, 13/1, you can view her exhibition, a two and three dimensional expedition in search for a forest´s secret, at Tranan, Karlbergsvägen 14, Stockholm, 18.00 – 21.00.

Australia & NZ Fashion

Visited Fotografiska yesterday. The museum always has the most amazing exhibitions! Fashion! and Lady Warhol (Christopher Makos), together with Exploding Plastic Inevitable (Roland Nameth) are displayed right now.

My passion for museum and exhibition shops can not really be described, I can wander around in there for hours. All the various books, high, low, thin and thick, they all deliver intriguing stories and educate in all possible ways. For me at this stage, about to move abroad, I found a book about fashion in the new continent I am about to enter. FASHION Australia & New Zealand Designers documents the countries’ current designers of woman’s and men’s fashion. All these designers play a key role in today’s fashion industry. Probably will this be one of the first things to order when I finally reach the other side.

After further inspection (I think I stood there with the book in my hand more than 20 minutes), both campaign shots as well as relevant information about the designers had been found. It is a fortune for me that my new continent is this characteristic and innovative talented when it comes to creation.

The Oxeshow

My friend Alexander created this image a few months ago, after us visiting Moderna Museet and the exhibition Fifty Years of Painting by Ed Ruscha.

PoMo studies

As I begin to finish up my last essay, I allow myself a little break. Are heading to town to meet two close friends, first of all Amela, who is home from London where she studies architecture. Nastassja, as I wrote about just recently, is coming too. We don’t have time to meet up all three of us that often, so this is a big moment. To catch up before Christmas, before Amela goes back and I move away from Europe.

The post-modern artist I picked to write about is Barbara Kruger, who produced the famous I shop therefore I am. But I did not choose that one.  Mine is below, and I must say Ms Kruger is surprisingly fascinating. Much of her text questions about feminism, classicism, consumerism, and individual desire. I like her!

Barbara Kruger’s graphic work usually consists of black-and-white photographs with overlaid captions set in white-on-red Futura Bold Oblique. I think you have seen it. I love the quote by her “I just say I’m an artist who works with pictures and words“.

I would rather be another place right now…

Photo: A.W.B

Guess what is going on at my place? Study. We have three essays for next week, two for Monday (exam) and one for Thursday (4000 words). Have to remind myself now and then I actually have paid for doing this. Well…

Anyway, right now I would rather shop Christmas gifts for my dearest, than study! Uniforms for the Dedicated, who I have written about before in the blog, now have started a collaboration with Bonniers Konsthall. Uniforms latest collection is shown in the Christmas shop together with their own musical interpretation of the art gallery that is being played in the restaurant. “This is just a take off point for a long-lasting relationship between the two”, says Fredrik Wikholm, co-founder Uniforms for the Dedicated (according to A.W.B). Best place for Christmas shopping!
